According to Innova Market Insights, tropical flavors, once tied to summer, are trending year-round. “Tropical flavors prompt feelings of escapism, transporting consumers to beaches and tropical destinations.” Similarly, Dole identified Tropical Takeover as a 2026 trend. “From guava and passion fruit to dragon fruit and pineapple, these flavors offer a sensory getaway, balancing comfort with adventurous flavor exploration.” Daymon’s Flavor Study reported that 75% of consumers are interested in trying tropical flavors. Dragon fruit, lychee, and passion fruit are the hottest tropical fruits taking center stage. They serve as a muse, inspiring various flavors and fragrances in consumer packaged goods.

DARLING DRAGON FRUIT

Dragon fruit, also known as Pitaya or strawberry pear, is a tropical fruit from a cactus plant native to Mexico, Central, and South America. There are three common types: Red, Yellow, and White, all of which have small, edible black seeds on the inside. Red dragon fruit is magenta on the outside with bright pink flesh. The flavor is described as sweet and berry-like, as well as having notes of pear and watermelon. The White dragon fruit is also bright pink on the outside, but features a white flesh inside. The fruit is described as subtly sweet and often compared to the taste of a pear or kiwi. Yellow dragon fruit is bright yellow on the outside with white, juicy flesh. The flavor stands out as the sweetest of the three, with tropical and floral notes. Dragon fruit is inspiring flavors and fragrances in a variety of applications.

Allen Flavors named Dragon Fruit the Flavor of the Year for 2026 for its bold color and refreshing taste. Similarly, Kerry identified the Dragon Fruit Phenomenon as a breakout global flavor for 2026, with a 7% CAGR in new product launches. In 2024, pitaya was found on 2.3% of U.S. menus, an 111% increase over the past four years, according to Datassential. DRAGON FRUIT FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES

To meet consumer demand, brands are launching dragon fruit-flavored products. In partnership with Illumination and Nintendo, Bubly launched limited-edition flavors inspired by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Bubly Sparkling Water is available in Cosmic Swirl (vanilla and berry), Dragonfruit Stardust (pineapple dragonfruit), and Meteor Melon (watermelon lime). When chilled, the cans feature color-changing Luma characters. Celsius’ Dragonfruit Lime flavor blends tropical, sweet, and tart notes. Roar Organic offers Dragon Fruit Punch made with organic coconut water and vitamins B12, B5, B6, and C. Lumen Clear Protein Strawberry Dragonfruit drink contains 16g of protein from grass-fed bovine collagen, rice protein, and essential amino acids. Krak Boba serves a Dragon Slayer beverage with fresh dragon fruit, mango, and lychee. Tropical Tornado joins Welch’s Juicefuls Fusions Fruit Snacks. The flavor combinations include Dragon Fruit & Mango, Kiwi & Strawberry, and Pineapple & Passionfruit, with a chewy outside and a juicy center.

On the fragrance side, Elizabeth Arden introduced Eternal Aura, its first flagship fragrance launch in eight years. According to the brand, it features natural ingredients scientifically proven to enhance energy, self-esteem, and happiness. The top notes include dragon fruit, golden pear, pink pepper, magnolia, and peony. Sol de Janeiro released the Cheirosa 68 Beija Flor scent in a solid Jelly Perfume Balm format. It’s the same scent profile as the spray, highlighting Brazilian jasmine, pink dragonfruit, lychee, ocean air, vanilla, and musk. Dollar General debuted the True Living Air Care collection in 12 scents across four product categories. Four of the scents are tropical, including Dragon Fruit & Jasmine, Passionfruit & Hibiscus, Papaya & Guava Flower, and Rosewater & Hibiscus.

LIKEABLE LYCHEE

Lychee, also known as alligator strawberry, is a small tropical fruit native to China. It has a bumpy, red, leathery skin, translucent white flesh, and an inedible seed. The flavor is described as sweet and floral, with notes reminiscent of strawberry, grape, watermelon, and pear with rosewater undertones. In 2025, Vitaquest International announced Lychee as the flavor of the year. Between 2020 and 2024, lychee menu items in the US grew by 24%, according to Datassential. For example, DAMA Foods International’s exclusive Lychee Series includes Lychee Mix Crystal Boba plus five flavors for cafes and tea shops. Lychee flavors include Green Pomelo, Hibiscus, Jasmine, Liqueur (non-alcoholic), and Rose. A Tea 7 offers the Lychee Affairs beverage, “sweet dragon fruit meets juicy lychee, mingling in fragrant green tea with lychee bits.” Mountain Dew Baja Blue Surge, featuring a mix of Açaí, Blueberry, and Lychee, was expected this year, but was canceled.

FRAGRANCE LEANS INTO LYCHEE

Lychee is appearing in fine fragrance and personal care introductions. Destin de Balmain is Balmain Beauty’s first prestige fragrance. The fragrance combines strawberry, peony, sandalwood, and lychee. The bottle is a refillable glass cube. Forbidden Fruit by Skylar is the newest release exclusive to the brand’s Scent Club. The scent is “fruity, juicy, and unapologetically sweet.” The EDP contains notes of lychee, raspberry leaves, Sakura mochi, violets, pink rose petals, cane sugar, vanilla, woods, and amber. Mielle released a Lavender & Lychee Scalp Care line in five SKUs: Hair Build-up Remover, Moisturizing Lotion, Moisturizing Shampoo, Soothing Conditioner, and Soothing Daily Refresher. It contains pyrithione zinc, known to combat dandruff and flakes, niacinamide, and vitamin B3. Dove extended its Plant Milk Body Cleaning Collection in Wash and Whipped Shower Foam. Coconut Milk & Sugar Lychee is one of four varieties, while Rice Milk & Velvet Açaí is a new variant.

PASSIONATE PASSION FRUIT

Native to South America, passion fruit is a small, tropical fruit with two main types, Purple and Yellow. Its Spanish name is “Maracujá.” The purple passion fruit has a leathery and wrinkled skin with a bright yellowish orange inside, with edible black seeds. The aromatic fruit has a sweet-tart flavor likened to citrus, pineapple, papaya, and mango, with musky undertones reminiscent of guava. The yellow passion fruit has a yellow, leathery, and wrinkled skin, with pulp similar to that of the purple variety. It is said to be sharp and intense, described as tangy and acidic, with sweet undertones. Social conversations about passion fruit have increased by 9.44% year-over-year, according to Tastewise. Passion fruit is appearing in beverages and fragrances.

Inspired by Mexican flavors, Mineragua Más offers three varieties: Guava, Mandarin, and Mango Passion made with real cane sugar and natural flavors.

PASSION FRUIT EMERGES AS A FRAGRANCE NOTE

Like lychee and dragon fruit, passion fruit as a note emerges in fragrance. Los Angeles-based fragrance brand by/rose jane released Matilda, a new scent inspired by the founder’s daughter. The vibrant scent has tart passion fruit, ambrette, meringue, mango, finger lime, golden musk, and Australian sandalwood accords. It is available in Eau De Parfum, Perfume Oil, and Travel Spray. Giorgio Armani launched Power of You, a new gourmand fragrance for women that combines juicy maracuja-passion fruit and warm vanilla. Amore Intenso by Vince Camuto for women blends passionfruit, violet petals, and vanilla and is “filled with love and passion.” Zoologist Lovebird features top notes of kiwi, orange, and passionfruit. Additional notes include ylang-ylang, lavender, lily of the valley, heliotrope, ambrette, musk, and amber. In air care, Febreze introduced AIR Passion Fruit Breeze. The description reads “A juicy burst of vacation. Green leaves, passion fruit, and tropical petals.”
