Cherry Blossom aka Sakura and cherry flavors are in season

CHERRY BLOSSOMS AND CHERRY FLAVORS IN TIME FOR SPRING

Cherry Blossoms’ peak bloom varies annually but commonly peaks between the last week of March and the first week of April. Cherry Blossoms, also known as Sakura in Japanese, are inspirational for spring fine fragrance launches while cherry flavors are popular for spring beverage introductions.

Cherry Blossoms Are Blooming

Elizabeth Arden’s new Green Tea Sakura Blossom fragrance features green tea leaves, sunlit cherry, sweet almond, crisp bergamot, and white Sakura florals. This year, L’Occitane has launched Cerisier Étoilé limited-edition, the brand’s annual spring cherry blossom fragrance. The fragrance contains natural extracts of cherries and cherry blossoms from the Luberon region with geranium, tuberose, cedar, and musk notes. Guerlain’s Cherry Blossom Millésime 2022 “evokes cherry blossoms at night, in the moonlight” and is decorated by Parisian embroidery studio Kyoko Création. Glowing Cherry Blossom, formerly Japanese Cherry Blossom, is part of  The Body Shop’s Choice Collection, which has renamed and reissued five fragrances in new packaging. The scent description reads “this light, vegan fragrance lets your personality sing with delicate joyful and floral notes of Japanese cherry blossom, osmanthus flower, and sandalwood.”

Not a fine fragrance, but a notable new launch is Glad’s Scented Kitchen ForceFlexPlus Bags in “a springtime fresh cherry blossom scent.”  On the flavor side, LaCroix dropped Cherry Blossom as its latest flavor. It is described as “a botanical twist of sweet and tart, the dazzling taste of blossoming Spring!”

A Cherry On Top

For the spring season, cherry flavors are appearing in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. BioSteel recently introduced Cherry Lime, the sports hydration brand’s newest flavor. Similarly, Waterloo Sparkling Water added Cherry Limeade and Blackberry Lemonade to its line. Scottish craft brewer BrewDog has expanded into soft drinks with the launch of its P.O.P. Soda line in four flavors: Citizen Cola, Dark Cherry, Jagged Grapefruit, and Hazy Lemon. Black Infusions added Dark Cherry to its vodka portfolio of naturally infused spirits while Boardroom Spirits has debuted Cherry Berry Vodka & Soda “which marries the tart notes of fresh cherries against a sweet berry twist” as one of two new canned cocktail flavors. Black Cherry Smash is one of four flavors in Sauza’s new Agave Cocktails, which are crafted with agave nectar and real fruit flavors. Captain Morgan has launched Cherry Vanilla as a limited-edition flavor with “the signature taste of spiced rum with the sweetness of dark cherries, the notes of rich creamy vanilla, and a hint of spice.” Red Freeze is one of four flavors from Mike’s Hard Freeze line that “tastes just like the classic red cherry berry slushy you remember, now liquified. Perfectly balanced sweetness and tartness for super refreshment.”

On the fragrance side, Ruby Rush is Paris Hilton’s latest scent with cherry, hibiscus, whipped cream, raspberry blossom, dahlia, waterlily, sandalwood, vanilla, and fluffy musks while Very Good Girl Glam Parfum by Carolina Herrera showcases intense cherry top notes combined with upcycled rose water, sustainably sourced vetiver, and vanilla bourbon.

Expect to see more cherry blossoms and cherry flavors used in new spring fragrance and beverage launches.
