We All Scream For Ice Cream: This summer ice cream was the darling application for limited edition treats. Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream and Glossier partnered for the launch of Glossier’s three flavored Balm DotComs. Inspired by the lip balms, Morgenstern’s created Cherry, Mint and Rose special edition ice cream flavors. Estée Lauder and Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni’s Ice Cream teamed up to create the Bronze Goddess Sundae. Inspired by “the scent’s most edible notes – orange blossom, coconut, and beautiful sandalwood,” the sundae features salty caramel ice cream, toasted coconut, honey-whipped cream, and cherries cold-poached in sugar, lemon juice, and orange blossom water. Unilever’s brand Magnum Ice Cream debuted a create your own custom-dipping ice cream pop-up bar in NYC’s trendy SoHo neighborhood. Customers selected a vanilla or chocolate ice cream pop, three toppings from a large selection, plus a milk chocolate, white chocolate, or dark chocolate dip followed by a drizzle. The Museum of Ice Cream designed an interactive pop-up ice cream exhibit with a “swimmable rainbow sprinkle pool, edible balloons, an immersive chocolate room, and a collaborative massive ice cream sundae” in NYC’s MEPA neighborhood.
Cereal Gets A Makeover: Cereal, a childhood classic, is becoming a café focus and taking new forms. Kellogg’s introduced Kellogg’s NYC a cereal café located in Times Square. Kellogg’s partnered with Journee and Pastry Chef Christina Tosi of Milk Bar, best known for her Cereal Milk Ice Cream, to create the inventive menu. Brooklyn lifestyle brand Kith, features Kith Treats, a cereal and ice cream bar located inside the retailer’s flagship sneaker store. The cereals are served with a bowl, spoon, and Kith-branded milk in a custom cereal box reminiscent of a sneaker box. Oregon’s Montavilla Brew Works and Coin Toss Brewing launched “Catch a Tiger IPA” aptly named because the beer is infused with Frosted Flakes. Tasting Table and Chef Scott Cioe of the Back Room in NYC, partnered to create an exclusive Tasting Table Lucky Charms™ Cereal Éclair.
Playing Footsie: Footwear brands seem to be the latest in food-inspired fashion partnerships. Dan “Mache” Gamache of Mache Custom Kicks and Brisk joined forces to create limited-edition kicks inspired by Brisk’s Iced Tea Pineapple Passionfruit flavor. This year, Nike has released several limited edition food-inspired sneakers such as a Starbucks-like sneaker (Nike SB Dunk Low Premium) and Chicken and Waffles inspired-sneaker (Nike SB Dunk High Premium Waffle). The Ky-Rispy Kreme Nike sneaker was created in partnership with Krispy Kreme Donuts and Kyrie Irving, the professional basketball player. Dreamworks and Akid collaborate to create the Good Luck Trolls Collection, a limited-edition capsule collection of shoes and clothes inspired by the launch of the Trolls upcoming movie.
