CRAZY FOR COLLAGEN – IMBIBING THE LATEST BEVERAGE TRENDS

Collagen is an abundant protein in our bodies that decreases with age. It is the main component in our skin, bones, and connective tissues giving skin its elasticity. Collagen in beauty, food, and beverages has been on the radar. According to Research and Markets, the global collagen market reached $6.38 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $10.19 billion by 2028, with a CAGR of 9.9%. Furthermore, the global collagen drinks industry generated $274.8 million in 2020 and is anticipated to reach $831.8 million by 2030 with a CAGR of 12.7%, according to Allied Market Research. The latest craze in beverage innovation is collagen-infused beverages in Ready-To-Drink (RTD), tea, coffee, and single-serving stick packs.

A CUP OF COLLAGEN

From non alcoholic beverages and functional ingredients to canned cocktails, RTD beverages lead beverage innovation. Collagen-infused tea and coffee are the latest to join the health and wellness space. Pretty Tasty Collagen Tea introduced its first RTD canned beverage line in two flavors: Peach Tea and Raspberry Tea. The drinks are formulated with collagen peptides, natural ingredients such as carrots and black currants for color, and lightly sweetened with stevia leaf extract. UK brand D’Amazonia has expanded its portfolio with Beauty Tea, a hot collagen tea beverage. It contains Chinese green tea, collagen peptides, hibiscus, turmeric, moringa leaf, Chinese white tea, rosehip, apple pieces, and blackberry leaves. UK brand Bizzi debuted a line of RTD beverages that combine caffeine and collagen in three varieties. The Coffee + Collagen Signature Blend features Ugandan cold-brew coffee with 10g of bovine collagen, vitamin C, and zinc. Coffee + Collagen with Vanilla & Turmeric has the same base with vanilla and turmeric flavors. Matcha + Collagen Signature Blend highlights Japanese ceremonial-grade matcha tea with 10g of bovine collagen, vitamin C, and zinc.

COLLAGEN-INFUSED BEVERAGES

Tea and coffee are not the only collagen-forward beverages. European brand Divas Drink International and California-based Care Lab Divas subsidiary launched Care Bubbles in the U.S. at Amazon, Erewhon, and Central Market. Care Bubbles is a sparkling beverage formulated with “a clinically proven vegan collagen formula, composed of 19 plant-sourced Amino acids, 74 sea, minerals, CoQ10, and 6 vitamins.” It is offered in Sour Cherry Rose and Grapefruit Hibiscus variants. The brand announced that Bergamot Orange Jasmine will join the line. Uncle Bud’s added Uncle Bud’s Hemp + Collagen beverage to its range. The canned elixir is available in Lemon Lime, Peach Tea, and Tropical flavors and is made with hemp seed oil, sustainable marine collagen, vitamin C, ginger, magnesium, turmeric, and glucosamine. Z Natural Foods introduced Vitality Blend, a vanilla-flavored natural coffee creamer designed with a unique blend of seven healthy mushrooms, collagen protein, and medium-chain triglycerides (MCT oil). Gluten-free and keto-friendly, it is made with all-natural, non-GMO ingredients and has no artificial colors or harmful preservatives.

SINGLE-SERVING STICK PACKS

In addition to RTD beverages, brands are launching single-serving collagen stick packs. Last year, supplement company Now launched Collagen Jelly Beauty Complex, a beauty-from-within supplement. It is available in Sweet Orange and Sweet Plum flavors. Fresh Bell offers Collagen Jelly Sticks with beauty benefits in Mango, Pomegranate, and Tropical varieties. The products use marine collagen peptides and are free from artificial flavors and preservatives. In addition to its RTD cans, Pretty Tasty also released single-serving stick packs in Lemon Tea, Peach Tea, and Raspberry Tea varieties. Sunkist introduced Sunkist Hydration & Collagen Stick Packets in Cara Cara Orange, Strawberry Lemonade, and Yuzu Lemon flavors. Each packet contains essential nutrients such as collagen, vitamin C, and zinc.

Keep collagen on your radar. Expect more collagen-infused beverages and single-serving stick packets to launch.
